Roger Paterson is an experienced high voltage engineer with more than 40 years electricity lines industry experience. He has held senior management roles at PowerNet in New Zealand. He has specific technical experience with protection, asset management, valuations, SCADA, line charge methodologies, substation design, reliability, and the resource management act.

Roger has undertaken a wide range of tasks in the asset management of the southern networks including writing Asset Management Plans, assisting with the Optimised Deprival Valuation (ODV), specification and standards writing, protection design and review, developing line charge methodology and allocation of charges on a ringed subtransmission network, network development planning, and project management.

Recent consulting projects

• Developed and presented an Electrical Power Engineering for Non-Engineers presentation.
• Subtransmission supply options for an 13MW electric boiler at a Dairy Plant.
• Review of a Zone Substation considering configuration and fault information.
• Review of available medium voltage (11kV to 33kV) field switchgear leading to a new specification and RFQ.
• Review of Low Voltage asset management and works.
